Set Up Find Me / Follow Me

Find Me / Follow Me (the Follow Me module) rings additional numbers — typically the user's cell phone — when their extension doesn't answer. Each extension can have one follow-me list.

Before You Start

  • The extension exists.
  • You know the cell phone (or other external) number to ring.
  • An outbound route exists that can dial the cell number's pattern.

Steps

  1. Go to User Attributes → Follow Me.
  2. Click the extension number in the list (or open the extension's edit page and switch to the Find Me / Follow Me tab — same data).
  3. Fill in:
    • EnabledYes.
    • Initial Ring Time — seconds the desk phone rings alone before follow-me kicks in. Common: 5-10.
    • Ring Strategy — typical: ringallv2-prim (rings the desk phone first for the initial ring time, then everything together).
    • Ring Time — total seconds for the follow-me ring. Common: 20-25.
    • Follow-Me List — one entry per line. Append # to a number to mark it external. Example:
      1001

      The 1001 is the desk phone (always first); the # on the cell number tells UnifiedBX to dial it as an outbound call.
    • Announcement (optional) — a System Recording the callee hears before connecting.
    • Play Music On HoldRing (default) or pick a MoH class.
    • CID Name Prefix — e.g. Cell: so the user knows it came via follow-me.
    • Confirm CallsYes is critical when including a cell phone, otherwise the cell's voicemail will pick up and the call won't fall through to the desk's voicemail.
    • Remote Announce / Too-Late Announce — confirm-call recordings (defaults are fine).
  4. Destination if no answer — typically Voicemail → <ext> (Unavailable).
  5. Click Submit.
  6. Click Apply Config.

Verify

Call the extension. The desk phone should ring for the initial ring time, then both the desk and cell ring. Let it ring out — should land at voicemail.

Common Issues

  • Cell voicemail answers and never falls through. Confirm Calls is No. Set it to Yes so the cell user must press 1 to accept.
  • Desk phone doesn't ring at all, only cell. Wrong ring strategy or initial ring time is 0. Use ringallv2-prim for desk-then-everything.
  • Outbound to cell fails. No outbound route matches the cell number pattern, or the trunk's outbound CID can't dial that area code. Test by dialing the cell number directly from any extension.
  • Cell user rejects the press-1 prompt language. Customize Remote Announce with a System Recording.
